From Planning To Timing Your Success

Success is the result of a process. Luck or chance has very little to do with well-founded success. Careful planning, defined goals, measurable results and timed limits are the four keys to success.

Without these four keys, success will remain elusive and hard to reach.

Planning is the first step. Too often, business owners and entrepreneurs skip this step, or substitute an "action plan" for a fundamental business plan. Planning what to do without considering why you do it is a fatal flaw for many businesses. Begin your business plan with a mission statement or reason for being. Decide, in advance, what definite major purpose your business will fulfill. If all you can come up with is make money - get a job working for someone else. The necessary passion and desire that a purposeful enterprise requires comes from satisfying a need greater than self. An ideally driven business has a better chance of remaining in business than a greedy one.

Carefully defined and realistic goals are the next step. It has been said that most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years. By setting goals that are well defined and practical in the short term, longer-term aspirations become achievable. A strong foundation of experience and accomplishment give the business owner or entrepreneur the performance power to handle a larger portion of success.

Measurable results are the following step. Remember that only that which can be measured can be managed. If you do not have a way to measure the results of your actions, you will not be able to correct your mistakes or even realize that you made a mistake. Carefully examine any planned course of action and identify every measurable part or aspect of the process. You'll save yourself a lot of lost time, money and motivation if you concentrate upon achieving measurable results.

Timed limits are the final step. Goals need a date for completion. There is a rule of business, which states that, the difficulty and magnitude of a job increases proportionally with the amount of time allowed to complete it. By limiting the amount of time to reach a goal, you create the necessary urgency and focus you need to overcome obstacles and cut out all the unnecessary tasks that do not contribute directly to success.

Make sure you use these four keys to unlock your success.
